The run is called "Toilet Bowl" but it's anything but a place to deposit human waste. Haines, Alaska holds an endless list of cheekily named runs, this one literally resembles a toilet bowl when seen from the air above. It's a favorite for light throughout the day, but the late afternoon is when it really doesn't shine, which is actually great for shooting silhouettes and keeping the landing snow from baking on sunny days. Gigi Rüf probably knows Haines better than any snowboarder that isn't employed as a guide for the one of the heli operations. He guided us to the this location as a bit of warm-up for our first day flying on a 3 week adventure back in 2013. He and Manuel Diaz made the most of this natural feature and really set the tone on what was to be a one of the best trips I've had to this magical place.
